On this year’s GivingTuesday (Dec. 2), we invited SMI members to once again support the work of Asia Christian Services (ACS) in reaching more people in Myanmar and neighboring countries with the Gospel.
You came through with a wonderful response. According to our friends at ACS, 32 contributors collectively gave $22,500. As in years past, SMI members learned of a need and responded with enthusiastic generosity. When you factor in a dollar-for-dollar match from Sound Mind Investing and a contribution from SMI Advisory Services, a total of $47,500 was raised!
The money will be used to fund the travel and other expenses of Asian national missionaries who are bringing help and hope to unreached people in Myanmar and other parts of Southeast Asia, including some of the most remote and dangerous areas.
An ongoing civil war in Myanmar has taken tens of thousands of lives, left countless people homeless, and sparked a refugee crisis throughout the region. Compounding the pain, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar in March of this year.
The missionaries are helping to meet people’s physical needs with food, medicine, and other forms of aid. They are ministering to their spiritual needs by spreading the love and eternity-changing message of Christ.
The missionaries are equipped with tablets preloaded with the JESUS film, which powerfully depicts the life and ministry of Jesus in the native language of those watching the film. (The above picture shows some of the missionaries with their tablet kits.) The tablets and solar-powered projectors were purchased with money raised in last year’s GivingTuesday initiative.
In addition to training and equipping local missionaries, ACS provides disaster relief and helps build churches, leadership training centers, Bible colleges, schools, and orphanages in Myanmar and surrounding areas. Its church-planting work focuses on planting “reproducing churches,” which send evangelists to share the Gospel with more people and establish more churches.
We’re grateful for the clearly impactful work being done by Asia Christian Services, and we’re grateful to you for your investment in furthering this work.
