As a new year gets underway, we thought you might like an overview of SMI’s publication days/dates for the months ahead. So here goes!
• Monthly newsletter and Fund Upgrading recommendations. In most months, we will post the Sound Mind Investing newsletter online — along with any new Upgrading recommendations — on the third trading day before the end of the month.
For example, this month ends on Monday, Jan. 31. The third-to-last trading day is Thursday, Jan. 27. That’s the day we will publish the February issue online. (That is also the day we’ll send the February issue to our printer. More on that shortly.)
The reason we post the newsletter before month’s end is so that members following the Fund Upgrading strategy have adequate time to make necessary sell and buy trades by the final day of the month.
The table below shows the planned newsletter posting dates for 2022:

Be aware that a planned publication date may be pushed back a day or two because of unusual market movements or other considerations. (We’ve had that happen a few times in the past, but such delays are rare.) Also, note that we’ll post the November and December issues early to accommodate holidays.
The print edition of the SMI newsletter is mailed one week after a new issue is posted to the SMI website. We send each issue to the printer on the same day it is released online, but the process of printing, addressing, and mailing requires several days.
• Tracker and FPR updates. We typically update SMI’s Personal Portfolio Tracker and Fund Performance Rankings (FPR) with the latest month-end performance data on the 8th of the new month — the same day we receive that data from Morningstar. However, if the 8th falls on a weekend, we’ll update the Tracker and FPR on the Monday immediately following the 8th. (In 2022, the 8th lands on the weekend three times: in January, May, and October.)
• Online DAA and Sector Rotation updates (for Premium-level Members). In most cases, we will publish our Dynamic Asset Allocation and Sector Rotation updates on the final trading day of the month. These updates will be based on the most current performance data and include our recommendations for the month ahead.
Example: This month, the DAA and Sector updates will be posted Monday, Jan. 31. They will include performance data through Jan. 28 (the next-to-last trading day of the month) and alert readers to any recommended changes for February.
• Web-only articles. Typically, we post web-only articles (i.e., "blog posts") on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In most weeks, the Wednesday post will be a "deep dive" about market trends, and the Friday post will be a "roundup" of recent articles from around the Web that we think will be of interest to SMI members.
Of course, we reserve the right to post on Tuesdays and Thursdays as events warrant!
