We suspect many SMI readers use this week leading up to New Year’s Day to plan for the year ahead. To help, here’s an overview of SMI’s publication days/dates for the Year of our Lord 2021.
Monthly newsletter and Fund Upgrading recommendations. In most months, we’ll post the Sound Mind Investing newsletter online — along with any new Upgrading recommendations — on the third trading day before the end of the month.
This will give members who follow the Fund Upgrading strategy time to make any necessary trades by month’s end. (To accommodate holidays, the November and December issues are posted earlier than in other months.)
Here are the planned newsletter posting dates for 2021:

On rare occasions, a newsletter publication date may be shifted because of unusual market movements or other considerations, but not by more than two or three market days.
The print edition of the SMI newsletter will be mailed about one week after a new issue is posted on the SMI website. (We always get each new issue to our printer on the same day it is posted online, but the process of printing, addressing, and mailing requires several days.)
Tracker and FPR updates. Most of the month-end performance data published online in SMI’s Personal Portfolio Tracker and Fund Performance Rankings (FPR) is licensed from the research firm Morningstar. Our goal is to get those performance numbers to you within hours of the time we receive them.
We typically post performance data on the 8th of each month. However, if the 8th occurs on a weekend, we’ll update the Tracker and FPR on the Monday following the 8th. (In 2021, the 8th will fall on a weekend only twice: in May and in August.)
By the way, on Jan. 8, 2021 (when we post performance data through December 31, 2020), we’ll update the Tracker to match our new Upgrading categories.
Online DAA and Sector Rotation updates (for Premium-level Members). In most cases, we will publish our Dynamic Asset Allocation and Sector Rotation performance updates on the final trading day of the month, based on the most current performance data. These strategy updates will include our recommendations for the month ahead.
For example, this month the DAA and Sector updates will be posted Thursday, December 31. Those updates will include performance data through December 30 and alert readers to any recommended changes for January. Next month, the DAA and SR updates will be issued on Friday, January 29 (based on data through January 28), and will include any recommended changes for February.
Web-only articles. Typically, we post web-only articles (i.e., "blog posts") on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. However, as events warrant, we may post on a Tuesday or a Thursday. In most cases, Tuesday/Thursday posts will be related to strategy updates, current radio appearances by our SMI team, or other timely information.
