Between 1999-2010, SMI's Upgrading strategy outperformed "the market" as represented by the Wilshire 5000 index in 11 of the 12 years. The one time it failed to outperform was 2008, when the market fell -37.2% and Upgrading lost -38.8%. In 12 years, the only thing able to derail Upgrading's success was a generational bear market without equal in the past 80 years.
